According to a recent research, even 7 of the biggest olive oil makers in the USA mix their products with cheap oils in order to get more profit.
Olive oil is considered to be one of the healthiest oils and it often is used as a remedy for longevity.
What is even more shocking, up to 70% of olive oil sold in the stores in the USA actually is fake.Manufacturers mix the high-quality olive oil with cheaper, inferior oils such as canola and sunflower oil. Moreover, this oil contains added colors and it is flavored, as well.
Tests were made and the results showed that these brands failed the test:
- Antica Badia
- Felippo Berio
- Whole Foods
On the other hand, the following brands are safe for use:
- McEvoy Ranch Organic
- Corto Olive
- Cobram Estate
- Bariani Olive Oil
- California Olive Ranch
- Kirkland Organic
- Olea Estates
How to check if the olive oil is fake?
You can test if the olive oil is pure at your home: put the bottle in the fridge for 30 minutes. If the oil starts to solidify, it means that the oil is pure, as it contains a large amount of monounsaturated fat.
Otherwise, if it does not solidify, it is fake.
Next time before you buy olive oil, it is advisable to look for official governmental seals of approval on the label, such as: “Australian Extra Virgin Certified” and “California Olive Oil Council Certified Extra Virgin”.
